![]() Here, you will find a brief, but solid and accurate history of Dave the Pirate, and of Dave the Pirate comics. It details the creation of the name Dave the Pirate, the development of the drawings, and the birth of the website. Hopefully, it teaches you everything you could ever know. My name is Dave Rose, and I am the sole creator, drawer, and editor of Dave the Pirate Comics. I started drawing Dave the Pirate comics in September of 2005, but the exact date I'm not quite sure of. Before I get to anything else, I should explain the history behind the name of my comic. Dave the Pirate, that is. Around the summer of 2005, I was acting awfully pirate-like (or so I've been told). You know, pillaging, fighting, using cannons and swords to get my way, etc. I don't agree with this, but the opinions of everyone I know outweigh my own. Anyway, a friend of mine called me "Dave the Pirate", which isn't a very clever nickname, but it stuck all the same. Now let's back up a few months. During my years as a seventh grader, I was messing around with drawing comics. I wrote a few lame graphic novels, but what I really wanted was to create an ongoing comic strip much like that of my role model, White Ninja. I drew many different comics, and the most successful one was called "Toby and Keith". It lasted for several weeks, and people thought it was funny. Eventually, during the summer, my obsession with drawing a comic strip died down, and Toby and Keith died with it. I still have a few of the strips, and looking back, I'm fairly glad they didn't live on. Then, at the start of eighth grade, I redeveloped a passion for comics. I took my new nickname, Dave the Pirate, and combined it with the Toby and Keith drawings. Toby and Keith were robot brothers, and that's why Dave looks so strange and inhuman. At this point, I've grown to love his look, but if I could, I would go back and change him to be more human. Throughout the beginning of my eighth grade year, I was drawing Dave the Pirate comics. The first one was actually #2 on this site. It's called "Dave the Pirate is Parched". It features White Ninja, it isn't funny, and it's featured as one of the thousands of fanarts at WhiteNinjaComics.com. On November 29, 2005, I finally uploaded my first comic to the internet. I had a cheap FreeWebs account, without any domain name. I'm sure some of my loyal fans remember "OtisFromCanada". I later moved to Tripod, and eventually got my own domain name, DaveThePirate.com. There you have it, the complete history of Dave the Pirate, written in plain English, for all to see. Hopefully, you learned something from it, and you didn't stab yourself in the eyes with a screwdriver because it was so boring. ![]() |
